A scalloped pot is chosen, I outline the perimeter with  clay and peat muck

 I choose native Virginia mosses ( Polytricium) for the top of the muck

  A layer of red and black Lava rock is placed for drainage,then

 A layer of  crushed granite mixed with clay particles also, next a 1/2 "layer of  Bonsai soil 

  Next, Nine Acer Palmatum 8-10" seedlings are planted with the larger upfront for perspective of distance and proportion

 Lastly, moss is applied  for a  finishing touch
